End of Summer Mocktail, The Good Cookie Challenge & Walking Meditations
“Movement in your body creates movement in your life.” — Erin Stutland
What’s your relationship with movement? My mom was a trainer when I was growing up in the 1980s. We basically lived at the gym. As a part of my creative process, I move my body daily, and if you’ve listened to the podcast, you know Pilates is a part of my regular movement practice.
I also use the Peloton App because I can ride the bike, stretch, and meditate in English and Spanish. They are so clever because there are dots for every day you work out. I started listening to meditations to get ready for the day just to get a dot. I have talked with other Peloton users, and they laugh because they’re hooked too!
If you’re motivated by tiny hits of dopamine (like me), I invite you to join me in the Good Cookie Summer 2024 Challenge, which supports Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. I have been a supporter of the organization since 2008. It’s been very close to my heart in the last few years, since my daughter’s second grade classmate and friend died of childhood cancer in 2023.
Did you know that 47 children are diagnosed with cancer everyday? And it's the number one killer of children in the United States. I committed to biking or walking as many miles as I can until August 31. You can learn more, donate, and listen to the podcast with Gretchen Holt-Witt donate here
What’s Nourishing My Creativity This Week
End of Summer Mocktail: This is the perfect drink for a hot summer day. If you are in the north east, like me you know these days are numbered, the leaves are already falling! This mocktail is inspired by the Venezuelan drink, Tizana, which is made with chopped fruit and grenadine and can be spiked. Make the end of summer mocktail
How to make ceremonial grade cacao at home: Last newsletter, I shared my nontraditional way of drinking ceremonial-grade cacao. Many of you had questions about my cacao practice + how I make my cacao. I created a blog post to walk you through it, plus, if you’re interested, I’ll host a live cacao tutorial with Q&A, send me a DM. Make cacao at home
Still Reading Spiritually We: This book explores the sacred art of friendship through a Buddhist lens. Sah D’Simone doesn’t sugarcoat it when he writes about taking full responsibility in the relationships with ourselves and others. This past week I have played and replayed sections. Focus on friendship
Watching Erykah Badu’s Studio Tour Video: I am trying a new thing! For almost 30 days, I haven’t watched TV at night after the kids go to bed. I stumbled upon this beautiful video. Erykah says the whole house is “an altar to creativity.” If you watch it, tell me your favorite part in the comments, I love her purple slippers! Watch the studio tour
